Adenovirus (AdV) is a DNA virus with 51 serotypes devided into 6 groups. The virus affects membranes of the respiratory tract, eyes, intestines, and urinary tract. Symptoms of respiratory illness range from the common cold to pneumonia and bronchitis. Respiratory diseases are mainly due to virus from groups B and C, conjunctivitis to groups C and D while gastroenteritis to types 40 and 41 from group F.
For detection of Adenovirus types 40 and 41 (serogroup F) as expected in gastrointestinal pathogen testing use ModularDx kit 61-0655-96 AdV F (Roche 07 374 305 001).
1 Vial purple cap 96 reactions Adenovirus (lyophilized)
1 Vial black cap Positive Control (32,000 copies, lyophilized)
Additional Reagents required
LightCycler® Multiplex RNA Virus Master
LightCycler® Multiplex DNA Master (if only DNA targets tested) or LightCycler® 480 Probes Master
A 82-85 bp long fragment from the viral hexon gene is amplified with a mixture of specific primers and detected with a LC610 labeled hydrolysis probe. The assay has been verified to detect virus types 1-51 and type 53.
This assay detects 10 genome equivalent copies or less per reaction (plasmid DNA dilution).
Sample Material and Extraction
Typical samples are from nasal swabs, tracheal aspirates or bronchoalveolar lavage, or feces. See ModularDx Document Extraction Protocols.
