Chlamydophila psittaci, formally named Chlamydia psittaci, are intracellular bacteria causing primarily chlamydiosis in birds, but also respiratory psittacosis in humans. They are transmitted by inhalation, contact with bird feces or ingestion. Psittacosis usually starts with flu-like symptoms but may become a life-threatening pneumonia.
1 Vial red cap 96 reactions C. psittaci (lyophilized)
1 Vial black cap Positive Control (32,000 copies, lyophilized)
Additional Reagents required
LightCycler® Multiplex DNA Master (if only DNA targets tested)
or LightCycler® 480 Probes Master
A 103 bp long fragment from the rpoB gene is amplified with specific primers and detected with a R6G labeled hydrolysis probe.
This assay detects 10 genome equivalent copies or less per reaction (plasmid DNA dilution).
Sample Material and Extraction
Typical samples are from bronchoalveolare lavage or sputum. See ModularDx Extraction Protocols.
