AFP is normally synthesized in fetal liver, intestinal tract, and yolk sac. High level of serum AFP has been identified in patients with hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC), teratoblastoma, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and germ cell neoplasms.
