Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) receptors 1 and 2, termed VPAC1 and VPAC2, are members of the 7 transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor family. Both receptors bind to VIP and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP). Interaction of VIP and VPAC1 inhibit megakaryocyte proliferation and induces proplatelet formation. VPAC1 is expressed in subset of mononuclear cells and it is highly expressed in some lung adenocarcinoma.
